One of the last championship finals of the outdoor season to be played was at Gifford where two true legends of the game in the shape of Alex Marshall MBE and Willie Wood MBE met in the final. Also on the outdoor scene the draw for next year’s National Top Ten tournament has given East Lothian Champions West Barns a tricky away fixture at Carnoustie West End on Sunday 17th May.
On the indoor scene Jamie Higgins and Emma Brown have been selected for the gents and ladies Scottish League select teams due to take on current league champions West Lothian and Auchinleck respectively on Saturday at West of Scotland as part of the SIBA’s Scottish Development Week.
Turning attention to the now up and running indoor bowling season at Meadowmill and Division’s 1 & 2 of the Evening Leagues will get underway this Friday September 26 with Division 1 at 6.30pm and Division 2 at 8.30pm. All domestic fixtures can now be viewed on the club’s website at www.elibc.co.uk.
Of those tournaments yet to begin the Saturday morning triples league begins on the 4th October at 10am whilst the Wednesday afternoon triples begins on the 8th October at 2pm. Anyone wishing to take part in the gents pre-Christmas Scottish Triples and Fours and the Team Championship singles, triples, pairs and fours should note that entries close on Friday 3rd October.
The gents and under 35 sides are due to meet in a trial match on Wednesday 1st October at 6.30pm. Anyone interested in taking part in this game and making themselves available for either or both teams throughout the season should add their name to the sheet on the gents’ board within the stadium. The gents’ first game of the season is at home to Paisley on the 11th October.
The ladies side at East Lothian IBC held a trial game against the clubs talented youth side on Sunday. Thanks go from Ladies Convenor Sheena Currie to Youth Convenor Peter Fallen, the youth players and coaches for making this a successful and competitive trial for the ladies. The Ladies first game of the season is on Saturday 4th October away to West Lothian and the team will appear in next week’s report.
Internally, the ladies Monday fours league is due to start on the 6th October at 2pm, whilst anyone wishing to take part in the Ladies Scottish Pairs and Fours competitions should note that they must enter their name on the applicable sheet by Friday 3rd October.
The seniors’ first league game of the season is on Wednesday 8th October away to Teviotdale, however, the seniors’ were due to take part in a Challenge Match as Scottish Cup holders against the league champions Falkirk on Wednesday at West Lothian as part of the SIBA’s Scottish Development Week. A report on this game will appear next week. Anyone wishing to enter the seniors’ pre-Christmas pairs, triples and fours tournaments should note the closing date for entries is the 3rd October.
Youth coaching begins this Saturday 27th between 8am and 10am where new members and anyone interested in taking up the sport are more than welcome.
Finally membership fees must be paid by Tuesday 30th September. Prices are £58 for full membership, £30 for Junior and £5 for Youths. Any player not having paid their fees by the 30th September and playing afterwards will cost their team the game they play in.
