The finals of the Scottish Seniors Championships staged at Midlothian IBC’s Dalkeith Stadium saw Duff skip her lead to a spectacular semi final win having included a magnificent count of 7 in their 25-10 triumph over Agnes Fitzpatrick and Annette Christie of West of Scotland.
Lining up against Jean Thomson and Val O’Neill of Ayr in the final it came as a great confidence boost when the Wilson/Duff partnership hit the carpet running with a super count of 4 then whizzed into an encouraging 11-3 lead after five ends. Signs of nervous tension after end 11 reflected a growing menace at 13-10 but the questions being asked were answered by the timely count of a 3 to 16 after which a grandstand finish of 3, 1, 1 accelerated the Balbardie duo to a commanding 21-11 victory.
West Lothian IBC will welcome as favourable the Section draw for next seasons Gents Premier League although in terms of travel costs they face long treks north to Aberdeen and Elgin. Drawn in the A section the stars from the Inveralmond stadium will also compete against Falkirk, Lanarkshire and newly promoted West of Scotland. Judged on the form of the recently completed 2017/18 campaign the make up of the B section is more of a hot bed with this seasons champions Blantyre and finalists East Lothian joined by Midlothian, Bainfield, Abbeyview, and Turriff.
Balbardie IBC’s breathtaking fight for survival in a gripping climax to Division 1 South sees the Bathgate based club pulled out of the hat to compete in the North section where they have Fraserburgh, Dundee, Headwell, Coatbridge, and Cumbernauld for company.
