Carrick Knowe have been giants of the Water of Leith League in recent times having captured the Division 1 title in six of the last seven years and that dominance was demonstrated by this seasons 11 point gap between them and second placed Slateford.The decision to switch leagues won’t have been taken lightly by the membership of Carrick Knowe as they have been passionate supporters of the proud WOL traditions that span 100 years and more, and in later years big contributors to its legacy of success and achievement.  The decision to switch leagues won’t have been taken lightly by the membership of Carrick Knowe as they have been passionate supporters of the proud WOL traditions that span 100 years and more, and in later years big contributors to its legacy of success and achievement.  The EBL is 37 club’s strong with a 1^st Sixteens structure that comprises four competitive Divisions and it will take a two-thirds majority from the constituent clubs present for Carrick Knowe to be accepted into membership.  “The EBL was formed in 1995 with the vision of embracing the whole of Edinburgh and although our objective to provide a competitive and meaningful league system found favour with the East League, The North West League, and The Port of Leith League, we failed to attract the 10 club Water of Leith League”, reflected current EBL President Robert Donaldson.  “It is therefore in line with our founding mission statement to be a professional organisation providing opportunity across the spectrum that helps bowlers develop and fulfil their potential in enjoyable circumstances that the Management Committee of the EBL welcome and are excited by an application to join from Carrick Knowe, he added.  When Carrick Knowe compete in capital wide events they provide evidence of having legitimate claims to rivalling EBL giants Craigentinny as the No1 club as they are the current E&L Top Five Champions and last years Edinburgh Top Ten champions.  “There is no doubt that we are hungry to parade our skills in EBL events as they provide an ultra competitive environment that would be stimulating and beneficial to the progressive ambitions of our club”, said icon figure Colin Mitchell.  “Carrick Knowe have been restless in this area of the sport for some five years now and with the application deadline for EBL membership being the end of September the decision was taken not let another year pass us by”, he added.  “All we can do now is to sit back and await further developments”.  (Stewart Meikle 19/9/14)
