Brunstanes sizeable 7-2 win at home to third placed Maitland is a terrific result for a team making its debut in Division 1 of the Alpha Trophies sponsored Edinburgh Bowling League and it augurs well for their prospects of survival in the top flight.

Craigentinny chasing a record extending ninth title triumph increased their domination at the top of the table to 8 points over chief rivals Parkside whose challenge was damaged by a less than inspiring 5-4 win at home to Hillside. Hillside not for the first time in recent years are already fighting for their lifes but will be well enough pleased with a result that retains hope of an escape from the relegation trap at least being possible.
Tanfields 6-3 win at home to Northern moves the six times champions into middle of the league territory but the result brings their visitors into a third from bottom position that will be of concern to them.
The action in Division 2 saw Queensberry produce a strong performance to thrash their West End visitors, 8-1, but the former Division club is being hard pressed at the top of the table by Summerside rivals that trounced Leith 9-0 away from home. There is a distance of some 14 shots though between the top two and third placed Wardie whose 7-2 win at home to foot of the table Mayfield gives them a slight edge over former Division 1 giants Pilrig who dwarfed their Willowbrae visitors, 7-2.
Carrick Knowe have taken longer than was imaged to be the pacesetters in Division 3 however a 9-0 away win at Dudley has accelerated them into the driving seat and they now hold a 3½ point lead over a Corstorphine team shared the spoils 4½-4½ on their visit to Seafield.
