All the major finals have been being played at the Alex Marshall Arena over the past two weeks and there have been some enthralling games for the spectators to feast upon.
Another star performer of the week was Lessel Middler who also achieved a unique feat in winning each of the Scottish Senior titles of the Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours. The final game in this sequence was the singles final against Alistair McKenna whom he defeated 21-16 in an excellent game which could have gone either way until Lessel pulled away towards the end of the game to achieve the Grand Slam of Senior titles. Lessel then went on to add the Team Championship Singles to his haul with a 21-17 win over Dougie Berwick.
It was a family affair in several of the singles titles as Beth’s unique double was added to by her brother Dean as he claimed the gents under 21 singles title. The brothers Betts were also bagging titles as Lewis was joined by Daniel Kivlin in winning the youth pairs and also defeated Chris Brock to claim the gents junior singles title while Aaron was not to be out down by his older brother and secured the under 18 singles title.
In other singles action Mags Thomson defeated Janet Fairnie 21-11 to claim the ladies two bowl singles title while “Fantastic Fairnie” gained revenge and the chance to defend her Scottish Ladies Senior Singles title with a 21-9 win over Mags in the final. While under 18 internationalist Danny Stevenson captured the under 17 singles title with a 21-20 win over Lewis Betts to add to the two bowl pairs title he won earlier in the week with Peter Fallen.

The semi-finals of the Jock Brodie Seniors Challenge Trophy Sponsored by N T Craig, Tom Young Plumbing & Electrical Services and Colin Glen Roofing took place last Wednesday as Abbeyview met Midlothian and Bainfield faced Perth. The two games were very keenly contested and one resulted in a last bowl finish. In the Abbeyview v Midlothian game it was end 14 which tipped the scales in Midlothian’s favour as they scored ten shots over the three rinks to take the lead for the first time, which they never relinquished to win 6-2. The other game was even more enthralling as Bainfield made a fantastic recovery from a slow start and were winning 5-3 with Perth having one bowl left on the final end. The Perth skip required to draw the shot to secure victory and Dougie Lambert done just that, with the perfect bowl to assist Perth in winning the tie 5-3. The Final between Midlothian and Perth was scheduled to take place at 11am on Wednesday 17th April.
All outdoor bowling clubs are now up, running and open and all Match Secretaries have also received their league and cup dates for the year with the East Coast Carpet League Divisions One to Four due to start next Friday 26th April.
