Before this the quarter finals were due to be held on Tuesday night when the following ties were due to be played: Winton v Port Seton; Macmerry v Elphinstone; Prestongrange v EL Co-op & Haddington v East Linton. The East Lothian Seniors came crashing back to earth in the Matt Purdie trophy on Monday when they suffered a heavy 84-56 loss to Stirlingshire East. Despite confidence being high following the first game win the auld yins struggled on some tricky rinks. Keith Fender’s rink again led the way with a seven shot win whilst the rink of team captain Tom Young backed them up with a three shot win. Unfortunately the rinks of Alistair Russell (-1) and George Cowan (-5) both lost out whilst George Smith’s rink had a bad day at the office against a strong opposition rink on top form who defeated them 36-4. With Midlothian defeating Fife it means that all is still to play for if the Auld Yins can record a win against Midlothian when they host them at Dunbar. The following team has been selected for the game: B Brunton, I Veitch, D Whitson & K Fender (Skip) K Boyd, A Valentine, D Hogg & T Young M Newlands, A Jamieson, D Pryde & G Cowan J Hamilton, R Strang, D Arnot & A Russell J Murray, D Kennedy, G Smith & A Burt Res – J Bonnar, B Scott, W Franklin, T Rattray & R Davidson
Meanwhile on the Youth scene the winners of the recent play-off in the Ann Dennis triples in the shape of Ormiston’s Abi McNeill, Sam Niven and Lucy Walker represented East Lothian in the national finals day at North British Bowling Club in Glasgow last Sunday. The triple played well and recorded two wins in their group of six, which unfortunately wasn’t enough to see them qualify for the knockout stages.
