East Lothian 27/3

With confirmation last week that the Indoor Bowling Season has been curtailed due to the Government advice in relation to the Coronavirus.

In addition to the closure of the Indoor Bowling Club the East Lothian Bowling Association have made the following statement:

Many of you will be aware that, following advice from the UK and Scottish Governments, Bowls Scotland has announced the cancellation of all of this year’s National and International competitions. The same decision has been announced by the Scottish Inter Counties Top Ten Association. Competitions scheduled for later in the season such as the Top Five, Under 25’s Calder Cup, and the Matt Purdie Trophy have not been cancelled yet, but remain in doubt.

East Lothian Bowling Association Committee met with the County’s Bowls Development Officer and East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club’s Match Secretary to consider these announcements and the most up to date Government advice.

Unfortunately we have no alternative but to suspend all ELBA competitions until further notice. We will, of course, monitor all developments and review this decision in May or earlier if there are any significant changes.

We will also be returning all capitation fees and competition entry fees. All clubs have been e-mailed in relation to this.  As soon as Public Health advice indicates it is safe for us to consider running any competitions we will be in touch.  In the meantime we would strongly recommend that you follow the most up to date advice to keep yourselves, your members and your communities as safe as possible. Unfortunately, we believe, this will require you to keep your premises and greens closed for the foreseeable future.  Many of you will be concerned at how this will affect your club’s finances. Bowls Scotland suggests that members should be asked for their fees despite greens remaining closed. They will also be providing updated advice for clubs.  An update will be sent by the association to all clubs in May, until then please stay safe and urge all members to stick to the most up to date advice. We hope to see you all soon.
