Tie of the round last Friday in the East Coast Carpets League Division One seen pacesetters EL Co-op host second placed Haddington and it was the visitors who opened up the battle for the league title with a 6-2 win. Whilst this was happening Port Seton capitalised on the leaders dropping points with a 6-2 win at Dunbar. These three teams now have a bit of a gap at the top of the table with EL Co-op leading Haddington by one point and Port Seton by three while there is then a seven point gap to joint fourth place teams Prestongrange and Elphinstone. Prestongrange gained a point on Elphinstone following a 4-4 draw at Winton whilst Elphinstone lost 3-5 at home to Castlepark. The final result of the night seen Tranent return from East Linton with six points. Dunbar are now ten points detached from second bottom Castlepark who in turn are two points behind East Linton and that all important and safe eight spot.
The action this week sees EL Co-op face another stern test of their qualities as they travel to Port Seton to face one of their nearest challengers while Haddington will look to capitalise on any slip up from the leaders as they welcome East Linton. Elphinstone will be looking to maintain their top half of the league position as they make the short journey to Tranent while in the other fixtures Prestongrange welcome Dunbar and Castlepark play host to Winton.
The first round proper of the Jubilee Cup for the right to represent East Lothian in the National Top Ten next year was played last Wednesday night.
