Former Tranent Juniors goalkeeper Berwick “saved” his best form of the season for the play-downs at Abbeyview last weekend when he seen off Andy Sneddon from Fintry, Alan Rough of Garioch and Galleon champion John McCabe all by the same 21-18 scoreline. Dougie now faces former Internationalist Martin Williamson in the semi-final at West Lothian on Saturday 7th January with the final the following day. The other semi-final sees International skips and Commonwealth Gold Medallists Neil Speirs and Paul Foster facing off against each other.

The women began their Premier League campaign with a narrow 74-81 loss to local rivals and multiple league champions Midlothian on Saturday in a game which came down to the last couple of ends. Midlothian are a strong side with a Premier League pedigree so the ladies will take heart from running them so close as they move forward in this campaign. The ladies have no game this weekend and travel to Abbeyview the following weekend. The Gents and Ladies National two bowls pairs take place this Sunday with the gents pairing of Mark Johnston & Willie Wood looking to emulate their previous success in this event when they begin at West of Scotland against Dumbarton at 11am. The ladies pairing of Lauren & Leanne Baillie are in action against West Lothian at Midlothian at 9.30am. East Lothian is a venue for the pairs as well so if you are unable to head to Glasgow or Dalkeith to support our pairs then head down to Meadowmill on Sunday to watch some of the action.
The Senior brigade opened up with a comprehensive 70-45 win over Teviotdale last Wednesday with all skips recording victories, Alastair Russell by 11, Tommy Young by 6 and Peter Laidlaw and W W Wood were both 4 up. In the youths section Danny Stevenson won the qualifier for the SYIBA Masters last Sunday. Danny showed great form to defeat three Scotland Under 17 players in the shape of Megan Kivlin, Craig Mackintosh and Lewis Betts (in the final) en route to the win. Danny now takes part in the Masters at Abbeyview on Sunday 23rd October.
The youths Friday sessions start this Friday 7th October from 2-4 pm, while the Saturday sessions begin this Saturday 8th from 8-10am.
The club attended the Preston Lodge Try Sports open day on Saturday and were impressed with the numerous youths and adults who tried bowls for the first time. Our coach Gordon Pryde put them through various drills and I’m sure they will be back for more bowling in the near future. All East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club members are reminded that all subscriptions should have been paid by last Friday; costs are £58 for full membership, £30 for Juniors and £5 for youths. Anyone playing and having not paid their fees will automatically forfeit any game they take part in.
