The East Lothian champions face a tough examination in their semi-final encounter at 11am when they go up against West Lothian giants and defending champions Kirkliston while the other last four tie features Strathmiglo against Chirnside. Former national singles champion John McCrorie will spearhead Tranent’s bid to capture a first ever mainstream national team honour and joining him in their quest for glory is Adam Martin, Kevin Cunningham, Kevin Jones and recently crowned county singles champion Matt Osborne.
Meanwhile its huge congratulations to John McCrorie after he booked a place in the draw for the 2018 World Indoor Singles Championships at Potters Leisure Resort in January after winning the Scottish qualifying event at Falkirk IBC last weekend. (see attached photo)
Haddington ace Glenn Blair will make his long awaited but very much deserved international debut this weekend when he is part of a 24-man strong Under 25 team to represent Bowls Scotland in the British Isles Junior International series at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club in Wales. Blair is one of eight new caps in the side and will win his first cap skipping one of the four Scottish rinks.
The club champions throughout the county have been battling it out over the past week for the right to claim the prestigious ELBA Champion of Champions title. The event will reach its climax on Sunday as Haddington Bowling Club stage the tournament’s finals day, with all the action commencing at 12.30pm.
East Lothian Bowling Association has announced that the Courier Cup finals day will be staged at East Linton BC next Saturday (September 16) from 12.30pm. The end of season tournament features all the evening leagues winners namely, Cockenzie & Port Seton, Haddington A, Longniddry and Aberlady A. The semi-final draw paired Cockenzie & Port Seton with Longniddry while it’s Haddington A against Aberlady A.
Legendary figure Willie Wood MBE reigned once again as the champion of his beloved Gifford Bowling Club having captured the title for a remarkable 25th time, defeating Dean Riva, 21-19, in an outstanding final. Gary Landells paraded his exciting skills in the climax to the gent’s championship singles at
West Barns and captured the title once again with a hard fought 21-15 win over Ian Thorburn in last Friday night’s final. Carole Marshall is the new ladies champion, Dougie Kennedy claimed the title honours in the senior championship while youngster Finlay Borthwick was crowned junior champion. Calum Gordon took the Presidents trophy. Kevin Blackie is the new champion at North Berwick following an epic 21-20 triumph over Davie Middleton in a cracking final.
World stage star Alex Marshall MBE produced his renowned range of skills in spectacular fashion to skip David Young, Alister Kennedy and Billy Mellors to the £4000 champion’s prize in the hotly contested Winner Takes All Open Fours event sponsored by A.O.Blair Roofing & Building, Annan’s Solicitor and Estate Agents and William Lawrie Funeral Directors at Haddington Bowling Club last weekend.
With the indoor season now very much on the horizon officials at East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club has announced the club will officially open this coming Tuesday (12 September) and will be open for the rest of that week from 10am-12noon and 6.30-8.30pm for practice games while membership fees will also be taken during these times. The club will be closed on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September respectively. A Try Bowls Tester session has been organised for Thursday September 14 from 6.30-8.30pm and everyone is welcome to get involved. Should you wish to register for the Try Bowls sessions please contact East Lothian Bowls Co-ordinator Billy Mellors on 07930 716073 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. The club will open on a full-time basis from Monday September 18 with membership’s fees being taken between the hours of 10am-12noon and 6.30-8.30pm every weekday. Membership fees and rink fees remain the same at £58 and £3 (£4 non-members) respectively. All leagues and knockouts along with popular Monday morning hat game begin from Monday September 18 onwards.
