Ann Watson has enjoyed national title success in the Scottish indoor bowls Triples Championship on two occasions – 1985 and 1986 – when with Midlothian and the 15 times capped star would love to compete the treble playing under the Bainfield banner.
Watson played the middle position in 1985 then stepped up to skip for her 1986 success and now reverts to playing number two to Mandy O’Donnell and Anna Anderson in the Bainfield trio. “The Bainfield name is yet to be etched on the silverware of this event so it would be just great if I could help my two colleagues achieve their dream of a first national title celebration”, said Watson. The playdown action for the 2015 title swings into action today with the Bainfield triples competing in the section being played at West of Scotland where they face a tough first round test against Balbardie IBC. This brings Bainfield face to face with a high profile trio in the shape of Kim Ross, Sharon Leitch, and Lorraine Malloy. Leitch and Malloy are no strangers to national title success having captured the 4 Bowl Pairs in 2006 and 2011 then the 2 Bowl version in 2013.
Midlothian also compete at the West of Scotlland venue and the late news is that their formidable trio of Gaynor Duncan, Jeanette Conlan, and Sandra McLeish receive a walkover against Irvine. Midlothian has captured the national title on five occasions and McLeish has featured in three of them, playing second to Ann Watson in 1986 then skipping in 1992 and 2002.
East Lothian head up to Perth IBC where their triple of Agnes McLeod, Jean Russell, and Janet Fairnie launch the defence of the title won last season by their clubmates Yvonne Leitch, Margaret Thomson, and Emma Brown. EL open against East Fife in the first round proper while Lanarkshire provide the opposition at the same stage for West Lothian trio Irene Taylor, Wendy Pudie, and Jennifer Sneddon.
