Whilst clear leaders Tanfield continue to dawdle in front there are signs of a late surge up the table coming from Pilrig as the race for promotion hots up in Division 2 of The Alpha Trophies sponsored Edinburgh Bowling League.
Both clubs are former giants of Division 1 and therefore committed to restricting their stay in the lower ranks to an absolute minimum and in that respect top of the table Tanfield with an 11 point lead over third placed Goldenacre look set for a quick return.
It’s not many weeks ago that Pilrig were flirting with the dreaded relegation zone but the prospect of life in Division 3 probably frightened them into fast improving action and their latest ‘jag in the arm’ is a 7-2 win at home to Tanfield. It’s a win that moves Pilrig up into fourth place and with 52 points close enough on the heels of second placed Postal (55) and Goldenacre (52) to ignite positive thoughts of grabbing the second promotion place.
Tanfield should make it comfortably in top place but the club’ support would be better pleased if the leaders showed more killer instinct than of late. Postal have played hard to enjoy the spotlight in second place and won away at Willowbrae this week but their 5-4 result against the foot of the table opposition leaves them vulnerable to Goldenacre and Pilrig.
Goldenacre did blow it big time however as despite home advantage they flopped to a surprise 5-4 defeat from a Mayfield team fighting the relegation blues with just three fixtures to go. West End look to have kept themselves safe in the middle of the table with a 7-2 win at home that saw them leapfrog their Wardie opposition.
Tanfield 65; Postal 55; Goldenacre 54; Pilrig 52; West End 49; Wardie 48; Mayfield 39; Willowbrae 34.
