Bainfield ladies entertain dreams of making it into the third round of the indoor bowls Scottish Cup but face a massive challenge to do so with today’s second round opposition at the Alex Marshall Arena in East Lothian coming in the shape of defending champions Midlothian.
Midlothian’s status as a premier league club dwarfs the image of Bainfield’s middle of the table ranking in the recently completed Division 1 programme but hope springs eternal in the camp of the Edinburgh challengers.
“We played well as a team to beat Teviotdale by 10 shots in last weekends first round match so the hope is that that gives us encouraging momentum however Midlothian represents a big step up in class and we are the underdogs” said a Bainfield spokeswoman.
The team news from the Bainfield camp is that stalwart campaigner Sylvia McAnna is unavailable in the rink skipped by Anne Watson. The full line up reads, Rink 1. Aimiee Robertson, Karen Tumblety, Susan Allan, and Anna Anderson. Rink 2. Gladys Christie, Cathie Falconer, Isa Wilson, and Anne Watson. Rink 3. Davina Crawford, Betty Eaton, Isabel Anderson and Marian Dickson. Rink 4. Heather Stoddart, Chloe Thomson, Rita Reid, and Mandy O’Donnell.
Midlothian have posted the following team selection on the club’s notice board but team captain Shona Johnstone informs that last minute adjustments may be forced upon them. Rink 1. Lorna Goldsmith, Charlene Williamson, Mary Brownlee, and Stacey McDougall. Rink 2. Dorothy Millar, Elaine Young, Annette Wilson, and Annie Rutherford. Rink 3. Sandra Muir, Norma Shillinglaw, Grace McGregor, and Sandra McLeish. Rink 4. Ellie Borthwick, Alison Plenderleith, Janet McVicar, and Shona Johnstone.
