West Lothian 12/12 – Scotlawn Bowls

West Lothian gents anxious flirtation with the relegation zone in the A section of the Premier League will become more serious if the stars from the Inveralmond Stadium fail to sparkle in this Saturdays visit to West of Scotland.

WL sit two points above second from bottom WOS so have the chance to widen that gap going into the festive season break and having won their home encounter 100-55 should have their measure however WOS do have impressive home form. The WL line up reads; Rink 1.Jim Speirs, Ian Drysdale, Bryan Cooper, and Calum Logan. Rink 2. Jamie Aitken, Scott McMaster, Cameron Greer, and Craig Moss. Rink 3. Connor McKendrick, Raymond Logan, Gary Orr, and Mark Allison. Rink 4. David Wilson, Graeme Lees , George Sneddon, and Thomas Mann. The reserve bench is occupied by Blair Mackie, Nathan McKendrick, and Richard Mark.

The gents of Balbardie IBC are foot of the table strugglers in the B section of Division 1 so are not the formbook favourites on their visit to second from top Tweedbank however the Bathgate based team did run undefeated leaders Auchinleck very close in their most recent game.

West Lothian ladies have won three out of four in a good start to their Division1 East campaign and have a favourites chance to stay in the title race with home advantage against Tweedbank.

The Balbardie ladies trio of Kim Ross, Sharon Leitch, and Lorraine Craig scored an impressive hattrick of wins in their playdown action of the Scottish Triples Championship but fell at the last hurdle in their bid to reach the semi finals stage. Craig and Co passed a tough prelim round test with flying colours defeated East Lothian’s Melissa Penman, Kim Hoggan and Dee Hoggan, 20-13 then added the 20-10 scalp of Midlothian trio Alison Plenderleith, Megan Grantham, and Stacey McDougall.

Their survival of a 16-15 cliff-hanger against Betty Gibson, Joyce Dickey and the legendary Julie Forrest of Teviotdale promised well for the section final but alas they were just touched off in a 16-14 battle with Pamela Mitchell, Clare Ewing, and Sarah Jane Ewing of Headwell.

Headwell had dealt an 18-14 exit West Lothian trio Liz Lynas, Jenifer Richardson, and Lisa Barrett who in their first round match scored a 23-15 win over Falkirk. The semi finals line up reads; Headwell v Glasgow; and Stonehaven v Abbeyview.

The Seniors brigade of West Lothian crashed to their fifth defeat in nine in the East A section having been outgunned 65-55 by Stirling at Livingston. The main damage done by the visitors was the 21-10 defeat inflicted upon George Marshall, Brian Walker, John Black, and Alistair Stenhouse. The other rink results were; George Sneddon 12-14; Duncan Lawson 14-13; John Lynas 19-17.
