West Lothian gents launched 2020 with a hard fought 4 shot victory (77-73) over Ardrossan in what was a challenging away fixture in the A Division of the Premier League and it’s a result that puts their continued status in the top echelon beyond doubt.

Balbardie gents continue to occupy the bottom rung in Division 1B but did manage to keep their prospects of avoiding relegation alive with an encouraging 87-70 win at home to East Kilbride. Wins on three of the four rinks reflects a strong team performance and the charge to victory was led by John Ellis skipping Ian Drysdale, Derek Kerr, and Mark Bonar to a tremendous 32-15 win over R Notman.
Sandy McDougall and his front-three of Tam Whitfield, Stuart Ford, and Andy Forrest beat K Clinton 22-16 while the rink of Graeme Turnbull, Jimmy Mallon, Davy Ross, and Walter McDougall added a 19-13 win over N McLeish, The only setback was a 26-14 defeat of Alistair Wilson, Lindsay Forrest, Brian Craig, and Ewan Shearer at the hands of J Orr.
Balbardie need to keep winning and this weeks visit to Galleon is a challenging one but the Bathgate based team do travel with a sniff of a chance if performing up to their best form. Rink 1. West Lothian Seniors ended their campaign with a 65-57 defeat away to East Fife and finished mid table with 6 wins out of 12 in Division East A. Wins for Duncan Lawson (17-11); Ian Robertson (20-14); and George Sneddon (13-10); made good reading but that picture was clouded by the 30-7 defeat of Tam Brown, Jim Wishart, John Black, and David Wilson.
Ironically, The day before, David Wilson was the master craftsman who made the difference in the final of the Morning League Pairs, skipping Dennis Kenny to a commanding 17-6 win over Ian McGill and Jimmy Speirs.
Even shot bowls within six inches of the jack were vulnerable to the precise drawing skills of Wilson and with good support from his lead player the opposition were restricted to counting at just three of the 12 ends.
Balbardie IBC’s eye-catching 5-3 win over East Lothian in the prelim round of the National Team Championship event is followed by a match against Abbeyview at Alloa this Sunday.
