Last Sunday the Ladies Junior singles play-downs took place at Dundee. Representing East Lothian were last year’s finalists Beth Riva and Megan Kivlin. Megan was first to complete her game and recorded a 21-4 win over Cassey Ferguson from Midlothian to secure her place in the last sixteen back at Dundee on the 3rd of November where she will face Kara Lees from Abbeyview. Beth’s game against Chloe Thomson from Bainfield was a much tighter affair and unfortunately Beth just lost out in the closing stages, going down by an 18-21 scoreline. Beth does have another shot at glory, however, in the national singles on the 26th October.
This weekend four of our talented Under 18s are in national action as they represent Scotland in the under 18 home internationals taking place in Scotland at Inverclyde. Lewis Betts and Danny Stevenson retain their places in the team which won the event last year and are joined by new caps Aaron Betts and Melissa Penman.
The Ladies team opened their premier league campaign at home to Bainfield last Saturday. The ladies were slow out of the blocks and at one stage found themselves almost twenty shots down before a great comeback over the last third of the game seen them close to within five shots with two rinks left on. Unfortunately they could not secure the shots required and narrowly lost out 53-55. Rink scores seen Dee Hoggan’s rink record a fourteen shot victory whilst the rinks of Megan Kivlin and Yvonne Veitch lost out by four and twelve shots respectively. Team manager Gordon Pryde has named the following team for this Saturday’s game at home to Abbeyview: Jacky McFarlane, Pat Turner, Mags Thomson & Janet Fairnie (Skip), Chandrika Monro, Margaret Murray, Beth Riva & Yvonne Veitch, Lucy Hogg, Arlene Berwick, Kim Hoggan & Dee Hoggan, Unavailable: Megan Kivlin, Melissa Penman & Lauren Baillie-Whyte

The Seniors had their first game in the Scottish Seniors League at the Alex Marshall Arena last Wednesday when they faced local rivals Midlothian. The Seniors made a horrendous start to the game and found themselves over twenty shots adrift after only five ends. The Auld Yins did respond to narrow the deficit to ten shots after fifteen ends, however, they could not force their way back into the game and eventually succumbed to a 54-60 defeat. Rink scores seen victories for the rinks of Willie Wood MBE (+5) and Tom Young (+1), however, these could not counter the losses suffered by Andy Burt (-7) and Dougie Berwick (-11). There was one change to the team for the visit to Tweedbank on Wednesday which seen international icon Graham Robertson make his Seniors debut in place of the unavailable Gordon Gray in a team which read: Ronnie Douglas, Brian Johnston, David McGill & W W Wood MBE (Skip), Peter Fallen, Alan Valentine, Alastair Russell & Tom Young ,Lessel Middler, Davie Pryde, Dougie Berwick & Graham Robertson, Jimmy Neilson, John Hamilton, Ali McKenna & Andy Burt, Reserves (Fifth Rink): B J Smith, R Maguire, R Steele & D Hogg ,Unavailable: Gordon Gray & Keith Fender
